Welcome to the New Trial Judge Orientation!
On behalf of Co-Coordinators Judge Bibi M. Berry and Judge Lisa L. Broten, along with the Judicial College of Maryland, congratulations again on your appointment to the bench. We are honored to host you this week and look forward to spending this time with you.
You'll notice the program goes by a few names. Officially, it's the New Trial Judge Orientation, or "NTJO," though you may also hear it affectionately called "Baby Judge School" around the courthouse.
Over the coming days, you'll hear from a wide range of subject matter experts from across the bench, covering the substantive knowledge that will serve as a foundation for your work as a trial judge. Beyond the sessions themselves, we hope this week gives you the chance to connect with your fellow new judges. The relationships you build with this cohort will be just as valuable as anything on the agenda.
We'll be using Sched throughout the week, so keep it close at hand. You'll find the full agenda there, along with any mandatory pre-work you'll need to complete before NTJO begins, and it's where you'll go each day to complete your evaluations.
